Aquarius: the art of disbelief
Missouri, I imagine, is overpopulated with Aquarians. Now this is
not an attitude conversant with the current hype over the Aquarian
Age, so am I being ridiculous? No, Aquarians think you are being
ridiculous if you believe in something that has not been shown valid
via repeated application of the scientific method. Even if you demonstrate
reason for your faith, they suspend belief unless lightning strikes
twice. Then – well, you might be on to something, but the
experiment must be repeatable. It was not an Aquarian who named
and defined New Age.
We are as usual talking abstract, and s/he looks me in the eye and
asks what I think. I explain, giving examples, reasons for my conclusions,
experiences as well as intuitions. S/he nods, seems to be walking
with me. Then when I am done s/he says: "But why do you think
you know the answer? What if it’s something else?" There
is no end to questions with the androgynous Aquarian, no nailing
down of truth, since to that human truth is elusive and ever new,
ever dancing into the future and ever teasing with another face.
Decipher, discern, detail as s/he will, my Aquarian friend will
never be done with physics, because physics will never be done with
humanity. Nor will any other cosmic science which attempts to explain
the how of it all.
I have done lo! dozens of charts, some for Aquarians – and
fewer Aquarians request a chart be done, in comparison with the
other signs, since astrology is not a bona fide science. But a game?
all right, let's play. So, we play. I play the fortune teller and
s/he plays the listener, nodding, sometimes responding with a "Yes!
And I remember an instance that illustrates your point!" Both
of us are caught up in the game’s moves. Then at the end a
pause, a nod, and: "But you know I don't believe a word of
this. You were only able to say what you did because you know me
so well!" S/He never dreams that s/he is "proving"
the "truth" of astrology with this statement by showing
how much of an Aquarian s/he truly is – since only an Aquarian
or someone with Sun conjunct Uranus has ever said this to me. It
is abhorrent for this type to be typed, catalogued, or detailed
on paper! “That is what I am allowed to do to the rest of
the world, but I am unique.”
Uniqueness is something Aquarians are good at, but it is the tone
of their uniqueness that tells the tale of these missionaries to
the collective. To be distant from faith while attracted to faith.
To keep the heart cool while being attracted to heart. To play in
the dizzying dance of words then retreating into a Zen silence.
To be androgynous in order to play the “other” in any
relationship.
Aquarians [I once mused to one] tend to sit firmly in yoga position,
back to the future in order to face the past with yearning. Their
longing for the safety of the past is forever separated from them
by their suspicious minds – of its chthonic power, its roots,
its darkness. The future Aquarian dream is always light and hope
and messianic peace, coming just around the corner to which they
have their backs so that they can teach those of us trapped in the
present about this utopia.
Strident individuals tuned to the needs of the collective consciousness.
Skeptical scientists who know the shape of the world to come and
work to make it so. Gentle geniuses who hear the muses and invent
ways so we can hear them as well. Cynical children, forever playing,
forever with their hands up in ecstasy. Doubters of the present,
because they know how ephemeral it is, how bright energy vibrates
chaotically behind matter, and how glorious tomorrow will be if
we direct “now”.
No trust is wasted on today. All hope is in the new day dawning.
Make it so..
